What To Do On The Central Coast

Cayucos is one of the old California beach towns-small, quaint, and remote from the fast pace of big city life.  Yet, there is so much to see and do, you'll want to come back time and time again.

Dining And Wineries

Prepare your own dinner in your Kitchenette room or on our patio BBQ. The grocery store is just up the street. Or, enjoy one of the many fine restaurants within walking distance or a short drive. Dining fares range from fast-food and carry out to "five star" dining and everything in between.

Central Coast California is fast becoming wine-country U.S.A., as San Luis Obispo County now boasts over 50 wineries and most offer wine tasting and gourmet shops. Many of the county's wineries are within a half hour drive of Cayucos.

Recreation And Nature

Cayucos is located on beautiful Estero Bay. With its State Beaches (Cayucos and Morro Strand) and its State Parks (Montana de Oro and Morro Bay), Cayucos is well suited for water sports including surfing, boogie boarding, sailing, beachcombing, sail-boarding, and kayaking. Rental of wet suits and other necessary equipment are locally available. William Randolph Hearst Memorial and San Simeon State Beaches are a short drive north up the coast.

Our weather will allow you to enjoy golfing year-around at any one of the nine golf courses in the County.

Fish without a license from the Cayucos Pier or book a deep-sea fishing (and whale watching) excursion from Morro Bay. Surf fishing is also available.

Biking, hiking and horseback trails abound throughout the area and bicycles can also be rented locally. Montana de Oro State Park at the south end of the bay will dazzle you with its ocean views, near-empty long beautiful beach and its famous Monarch Butterflies.

Enjoy whale watching from the pier during spring and fall. Be sure to see the hundreds of rare elephant seals on the beaches at Piedras Blancas Lighthouse just 20 miles north. Birdwatchers from all over the globe come to the Morro Bay estuary because it boasts the widest variety of bird species in one location in the United States.

Other Areas Of Interest

The Hearst Castle State Monument situated on a 1600-foot hilltop overlooking San Simeon Point is a must-see. The Castle with its 127 acres of gardens, 165 magnificent rooms, and one of the largest art collections in the state offers a variety of daily tours (reservations are advised). The Castle. its gift shop, and museum are open daily.

Cayucos is famous for its antique shops, but shopping opportunities abound in town, in the nearby fishing village of Morro Bay, in the artist's retreat in Cambria, as well as in San Luis Obispo and the County's southern towns of Pismo Beach and Arroyo Grande.

Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa in San Luis Obispo was established in 1772 and is the fifth of the 21 original California missions. It is open daily and self-guided tours are available.

San Luis Obispo, home to Cal-Poly State University, has numerous museums, plenty of night life, special entertainment opportunities as well as many family-oriented special events throughout the year.
